Membership

My Eden Voice is a member organization made up of grassroots groups and individuals working together to create a stronger future for the urban unincorporated communities of Alameda County. We center this work on the leadership of working class and BIPOC residents.

Our membership model includes two types of members: Grassroots groups made up of primarily volunteer-led organizations of ten people or more that are addressing issues aligned with our mission, and individual residents who work or live in the Eden Area who are committed towards the vision and mission of My Eden Voice.

We are a democratically run organization.

Our board is made up entirely of community members; representatives of our grassroots groups and at-larger representatives elected by our members.

Grassroots Group Membership

My Eden Voice welcomes grassroots base building organizations that are committed to organizing their neighbors for change in alignment with our mission and vision.

Definition of base-building organization:

“Community organizing is a method for building power, particularly for people and communities who have traditionally been excluded from decisionmaking. Also referred to as “base-building,” it involves community organizers working to build grassroots leadership to create and advocate for policy solutions and changes to systems that produce inequities. Organizers (Organizations) build relationships and develop leaders to engage in campaigns that advocate for changes that will improve their communities.”

Every grassroots base-building organization is defined as having:

  1. An identified base of members
  2. A mission created by its membership
  3. Member elected leadership (e.g. Board, committee)
  4. A definition of membership and defined process of becoming a member
  5. Grassroots groups are expected to provide updated rosters to My Eden Voice on an annual basis
