A Fair Share for Eden Families
The Fair Share Committee’s latest research report found that over $1 billion has gone missing in the last decade. Our Fair Share Committee is a part of the Eden Area Budget Justice Coalition.
Residents of unincorporated areas in Alameda County face numerous challenges, including historical disenfranchisement, insufficient local political representation, and a lack of centralized oversight of service provision. Although the county provides municipal services to unincorporated areas, there are no dedicated administrative staff to oversee service provision. Therefore, information on the budget is sparse – both for municipal service provision and general county spending on residents of unincorporated areas. Analysis of available budget data over the past two decades reveals that the county’s reported spending on municipal services is significantly lower than what was originally approved in yearly budgets by the Board of Supervisors. This report provides numerous recommendations for Alameda County to address the governance and fiscal challenges faced by residents in unincorporated areas.
