San Lorenzo Unified School District is deciding which of our schools may close or merge, and most of our community doesn’t know it’s happening.
The District is forming a 20-member School Consolidation Advisory Committee that will study our schools and recommend which ones to close due to declining enrollment. The application to join that committee closes tomorrow, September 25. The School Board votes on who gets a seat on October 6.

Most families, students, teachers, and neighbors never heard about this opportunity. The application is only available in English. A process this rushed favors people who already have access and connections, and leaves out the people whose schools and neighborhoods are on the line.
In San Lorenzo, Cherryland, and Ashland, the stakes of school closures are even higher. Our schools are among the only public institutions we have. Losing one changes an entire neighborhood.
We’re asking the Board to:
- Extend the application deadline so everyone has a fair chance to apply
- Build a committee that reflects our whole district, as state law requires
- Include representatives from every trustee area
- Provide full language access, including translated applications and interpretation at every meeting
- Consider our unincorporated communities in all of their decisions.
